Kite Flown Aerial

On Tuesday 26th August 2008 Roger G4ROJ came to the club to demonstrate and talk about his exploits with kite aerials.

The demonstrations started quite early as the evening was already drawing in. A Helikite was soon up and members were intrigued with the combination of kite and balloon.

Higher and Higher

Stations from around the country were soon received at good signal strength and many contacts made. But with the failing light the demonstrations came to an end.

It was then into the clubhouse to hear how Roger had become interested in using kites to fly aerials. Members learnt of the many different kite aerials that Roger has used over the years and the successes that he has had with them.

They also learnt of his holiday/Dxpedition to the Caribbean island of Tobago and the amusing story, ably assisted by Darren G7KVO, of how one of the locals struggled to understand the antenna in use especially as is was made of "cow wire" and airborne!

A big thank you goes to Roger G4ROJ for an interesting and enjoyable evening.
